About HyperGen
Based at Cranfield University in the UK, HyperGen was founded in September 2019 to accelerate the shift away from diesel-powered microgrids. We build practical, scalable platforms that enable alternative liquid and gaseous fuels to replace diesel in remote, rural, and island communities. Our approach combines engineering, local partnership, and fuel-agnostic systems design so cleaner, more affordable power can reach places that need it most.
Our Mission
To replace polluting diesel generators with clean, dependable power that improves energy access, public health, and quality of life when the central grid is unavailable or unreliable.
Our Story
Both founders grew up in countries where the central electricity grid was unreliable or incomplete. They witnessed first-hand how many households and businesses depend on small piston generators: expensive to run, vulnerable to fuel supply disruptions, and harmful to local air quality. Those experiences shaped our conviction that better, cleaner options are possible—and that practical engineering and thoughtful deployment can make a measurable difference.
What We Do
We design and deliver modular platforms that allow a range of alternative fuels to be used in place of diesel. Our solutions are engineered for:
We work with local partners, fuel suppliers, and installers to ensure systems are sustainable, maintainable, and economically viable over the long term.
Where We Work
While our primary focus is remote, rural, and island microgrids, we also apply our technology and expertise to other sectors that rely on traditional gensets, including construction and maritime operations. In each setting we prioritize solutions that reduce emissions, lower operating costs, and improve air quality for workers and residents.
Our Values
If you’d like to learn more about our projects, partnerships, or how HyperGen could support a transition away from diesel in your community or operation, we’d be glad to connect.
